    With an expertise in talent acquisition, performance management, compensation planning and employee relations, Sue enables staff to contribute effectively and productively to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the firm’s goals and objectives.  She is an active member in the Society for Human Resource Management, Northeast Human Resources Association and the newly joined Boston Society of Architects Human Resources Wizards.

    Don Deng, AIA, has been a lead design principal at SBA for over 20 years and has designed an extensive number of international mix used, civic, corporate commercial and residential projects. He has been published in many professional journals and magazines, and lectured frequently in international settings. He contributes to organizations advancing the future of our professions. Though he is based in SBA’s Boston office, Don is able to bring his unique process and aesthetic to multiple continents through SBA’s “Ocean Group,” and often works out of SBA’s office in Guangzhou, China. It is not only Don’s cultural dichotomy that makes his ideas accessible to audiences on both sides of the Pacific - it is his compelling architecture, whose elegant and dynamic forms are the fruits of his rigorous and self-styled design process. Conceptually he does not subscribe to any overriding organizational standard or coordinate system that exists independent of his buildings. Instead of creating works that respond to project criteria, Don uses these potentially limiting factors as his design inspiration. Using idealized, pristine shapes, Don makes the abstract physically manifest. His design method is well-suited to the broader context of China, where dense buildings tend to compete for attention in an urban context. Don does not shy away from new ideas. In fact he actively seeks them out. A born risk-taker, Don thrives on the stimulus of change, even if, or maybe especially if, he does not know where it will lead him.

    Since joining SBA in 1999, Ai Kurokawa has worked almost exclusively on healthcare projects. Ai’s skills in project organization and detailing has been applied in all job phases, and she has cultivated a unique talent for balancing complex design and equipment requirements with user needs. Ai is involved in outreach programs to teach design in schools, and she has represented her neighborhood on the design review board in Brookline. Prior to her architectural career, Ai served as the lead preschool teacher for the Children’s Hospital Child Care Center. With a Master’s degree from the Boston Architectural Center, Ai is currently advancing through her architectural registration exams.

    Theresa Harris is a healthcare planner with nearly twenty years of experience. She has worked on the planning, design, and development of a diverse range of healthcare facilities, including both new construction and renovations for community hospitals, cancer centers, and medical office buildings. With her strong coordination skills and technical capabilities, Theresa provides clients with an array of planning services, from multi-site campus master plans to facilities analyses, feasibility reports, and building master plans. She works with organizations to shape optimal healing environments by developing design objectives, project programs, adjacencies, and operational criteria that lead to successful and sustainable solutions.

    Chu Foxlin is a principal and Design Director for Boston Office. An award winning designer, with more than 26 years of experience in a wide range of project types. Chu is most known for her work in healthcare institutions, life science research labs, and academic organizations. Prior to joining SBA, her clients included Duke University Hospital, Cornell University, The Jackson Laboratory, University of Minnesota, Broad Institute, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Washington University at St Louis, Suffolk University, BioMed Realty, Procure, Magee Women’s Hospital, National Cancer Center of Singapore, and Hong Kong Sanatorium Hospital. Chu excels in leading design teams to generate strong concepts and to execute them in a meticulous and timely manner. Her strong background in both exterior and interior architecture enables her to “design the experience” by crafting a seamlessly cohesive architectural environment. Her design philosophy is based on creative practicality, where innovative architecture solutions create intelligent workflows and enhance the emotive experience for her building visitors and users. Chu is a graduate of Tsinghua University and MIT.

    Melinda is an experienced designer and project manager with a proven ability to think conceptually and to apply theoretical concepts to design projects. She has expertise in field verification, documentation of existing conditions, and in construction administration. 
     
    Melinda uses her excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to improve the client experience. She is a knowledgeable resource on the Massachusetts Code, MAAB, and ADA.

    With more than 15 years of experience, Anthony Miniscalco has gained expertise in a variety of project types, including healthcare, corporate-commercial, residential, and elderly housing developments. Anthony has conducted several successful renovation projects with the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development on multi-family and senior living facilities. Sharing his passion for the local academic community, Anthony volunteers as a student mentor and reviews architectural portfolios at area schools. Anthony is also an active member of SBA’s corporate culture committee, where he promotes office-wide participation in the “Canstruction” charity competition and in architectural sports leagues.

    Eddie is a Senior Associate with over 20 years of experience working throughout a range of market sectors including Academic, Municipal, and Healthcare projects. A teacher at heart, he has a passion for the education of others, and loves collaborating with a team, to create environments that transform the lives of their users.

    Based in our Enfield, CT Office, he specializes in Sustainable Design and Code Compliance, and is actively involved with several professional organizations.  He serves on the Industry Advisory Board at Hartford High School’s Academy of Engineering and Green Technology, the Hartford and State Boards of the ACE Mentor Program, and as chair of the Green Schools Advocacy Committee for the CT Green Building Council.  In his spare time, he coaches Little League baseball and teaches Hebrew at his Synagogue’s Religious School.

    Eddie received SBA’s Peter Steffian Mentorship award in 2015 for his efforts helping many junior staff within the office and also for his work with the ACE Mentor Program.

    Based in the Enfield, CT office, Mark Fobert has 30 years of experience working in multiple market sectors.  Since joining SBA in 2011, Mark has worked primarily on projects at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Mark serves as a Board Member on the Grafton Historical Commission and is a past committee member of the Hopkinton Design Review Committee. He has also served as a thesis advisor at Boston Architectural College.

    Chris DiMattei joined SBA in 1986 as an architect and CAD specialist, and currently serves as our Systems and Network Manager. Chris has spearheaded the use of several emerging technologies that have been applied throughout our design processes, including his specialist areas in three-dimensional modeling and photo-realistic renderings. As a technology manager, Chris ensures the smooth operation of the firm’s infrastructure throughout our Boston, Enfield, and London offices. Chris also leads our Technology Team, which is charged with improving efficiencies within the architectural workflow through improved use of current technologies. Chris has design experience in medical, higher education, and residential markets, and is an advocate for the preservation of historical architectural landscapes.

    Having joined SBA fifteen years ago, Michael Noel brings more than 35 years of experience over a range of project types, both domestic and international, which includes senior housing, research laboratories, and hospitals. Michael’s previous laboratory work involved corporate research and development facilities as well as clean rooms, university research labs, and animal research facilities. After working as SBA’s on-site representative in 2007-2009 for the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, an international design competition-winning project, Michael returned to the U.K. in 2015 to work on their largest project, a rehabilitation center renovation in the Midlands for armed services members. Michael demonstrates successful management strategies, including handling complex and sensitive situations along with effective production and design skills.

    As a member of our IT team, Eli Battis maintains SBA’s computer systems to ensure they are running and performing at peak. Eli is involved in all aspects of IT systems administration, focusing particularly on user support and in the management of SBA’s virtual server infrastructure. Prior to joining SBA in 2005, Eli worked as a Systems Administrator in San Francisco and as an English-language instructor in the U.S. and abroad.

    Chris Anglese has more than fifteen years of professional experience designing healthcare-related facilities. With a brief background in providing medical equipment planning, Chris has an innate understanding of operational and organizational considerations. Chris focuses on solving complex planning and technical problems, mentoring team members, and ensuring a client-oriented experience through effective communication strategies. Chris works actively with SBA’s internal committees to improve sustainable design and foster the smart use of technology.

    Having joined SBA in 2002, JoAnne Heffner currently serves as Senior Finance Associate and is responsible for coordinating employee payroll and benefits. JoAnne is also involved in orienting our new hires and training staff. Committed to cultivating a positive workplace environment, JoAnne serves as Chair for our internal Staff Appreciation Committee and is involved with SBA’s Corporate Culture Committee.

    Tom Hartman began working at SBA in 1993. As a Senior Associate, Tom brings experience in the management and production of medical and ambulatory care facilities as well as residential, office, research and development, and commercial buildings. Tom has specialized on numerous patient-centered outpatient medical projects, such as Baystate’s D ’Amour Center for Cancer Care and the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care. Committed to sustainable design, Tom is a registered LEED Accredited Professional and is involved in managing SBA’s standards and protocols. Tom also works on revising and improving SBA’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities.

    With more than twenty years of experience in planning and design, Chris Kicza has served as Project Architect on a number of diverse endeavors. Chris maintains impressive skills in the areas of construction documentation, job management, and construction administration. He has specialist expertise in the development of high-performance building envelope design. Chris is currently pursuing certification as a Passive House Consultant with the Passive House Institute U.S., an organization committed to making high-performance energy principles into mainstream standards.

    Shelley Harris is a Principal with more than 30 years of healthcare and residential design experience.  She’s brought her knowledge to general and special care hospitals, long-term acute care facilities, senior living communities, in addition to social service and fitness facilities throughout New England.  Shelley joined Steffian Bradley Architects in 2003 and has demonstrated her project management talent on every assignment.  Along with her valued mentoring skills at SBA, Shelley is committed to continuing client relationships by ensuring that client and design team communication is maintained and that project schedule and budgets are upheld.

    Shelley is actively involved with SBA’s internal committees designed to improve internal processes, communication and smart business practices.  She is a member of AIA and BSA and is the recipient of a City of Boston Award of Recognition for Continued Dedication and Commitment for her project management role in the Boston Specialty & Rehabilitation Hospital Renovation in 1993.

    Shelley received SBA’s Peter Steffian Mentorship award in 2015 for her efforts bringing up many junior staff within the office.

    Lynn has over 20 years of experience in healthcare interior design in addition to earlier experience in the corporate, hospitality and retail markets. She has designed and managed projects for clients including Massachusetts General Hospital, Steward Health Care System, Kaiser Permanente and John Muir Health. Lynn is a proven leader who excels at team collaboration and client relations. As a highly motivated design professional with excellent organizational, mentoring, and creative skills, she has advocated for patient-centered aesthetic solutions which address acoustics, lighting, and air quality for the care environment.

    Steffian Bradley Architects has been a leader in the introduction of technology to the business of architecture. In his 28 years at SBA, Mike Bennett has worked on a wide range of projects in all market sectors. As Steffian Bradley Architects began to grow and expand into international markets, Mike became more involved in managing SBA’s standards, protocols and production workflows. He has been responsible for providing support for existing technology and implementing emerging technologies for the past 15 years. When Building Information Modeling was introduced to the industry, Mike led team responsible for the introduction of BIM to firm and continues to revise and improve on SBA’s BIM capabilities.

She understands how to gain information through programming and interviewing clients and uses her varied background to develop fresh and unexpected ideas and solutions. The market sectors that Susan has accumulated her experiences from include commercial, civic, retail, hospitality, academic from K through higher education, and residential opportunities. Susan immerses herself into the design process from the programming phase, schematic and design development phase through construction documents including construction administration and the specification of furniture finishes and equipment.

    Jane Kralik joined Steffian Bradley Architects in 1982 as manager of financial and office operations. With increasing responsibilities, Jane’s role has evolved into Stockholder of the firm and Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of Directors. Her exceptional skills in managing the firm through the complexities of a highly competitive economy have been remarkable.  Currently, as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Jane directs all personnel, business and financial operations of the firm, including the Boston, London, China and Canada offices. Outside of Steffian Bradley Architects, Jane is highly involved in many professional associations and activities including the Design Professional Risk Control Group (DPRG) where she served as a Member of the Board for over seven years.  As the past President of the Board of DPRG, Jane was also the Chair of the Practice Management and Education Committee Board Member.

    Roberta “Bobbe“ Young is a Stockholder of Steffian Bradley Architects and the Managing Principal of Sterling Planning Alliance, SBA’s  healthcare planning division.  She is a multi-faceted leader, manager, and innovator with over 30 years’ experience managing complex healthcare organizations, projects, facilities, professionals, and technical personnel. Passionate about creating lean operational systems, customer-focused organizations, teams, and environments, she is an enthusiastic, results-oriented facilitator and planner, with sound business judgment.     Teresa Wilson is a Principal with more than 25 years of healthcare design and planning experience in ambulatory and surgical facilities, as well as multiple pediatric centers. She works closely with clients and end-users to establish patient and provider flow diagrams, conceptual sketches and programs that allow the design process to move smoothly into project development. Her solid understanding of healthcare design standards and guidelines enables her to successfully guide clients through the planning and design process. Teresa also has extensive experience in helping clients navigate the ongoing innovations in medical care to optimize design decisions for future staffing, equipment flexibility, and integrating Medical Home concepts. As a participant in several client led lean events, Massachusetts Hospital Association Lean Certification programs, and Lean/IPD sessions with owners, contractors and engineers and facilitated by Lean Project Consulting, Teresa understands the language and principles of lean design and can facilitate their use throughout all phases of the project. She is skilled in illustrating concepts to ensure the users understand the design goals, intent and criteria for making decisions through the use of lean tools such as: gemba activities, value stream maps, spaghetti diagrams, mock-ups, and A3 reports.

    Steve Van Ness is a Principal in SBA’s Boston’s office. He brings more than 30 years of experience in master plan development, programming, design, leadership, and management to a wide range of complex hospital, healthcare, senior living, academic and residential projects. Steve has served as Project Executive and Principal-in-Charge on new construction and renovation projects for community health centers and hospitals throughout New England. With his exceptional facilitation and management skills, Steve ensures that stakeholders―clients, providers, staff, end-users, and the community―have a voice at every step of the planning, design and implementation of a project. Steve currently serves as Project Executive for a major health care system’s initiatives at eleven hospitals and multiple ambulatory centers throughout New England.

    Spencer Warncke is responsible for directing the operations of information technology throughout the Boston, Connecticut, and London offices of Steffian Bradley Architects. As the CIO, Spencer has shepherded the office through three decades of evolving technologies starting with the earliest commercial CAD systems up through today’s BIM technologies, transforming the office from manual drafting to 100% automation and integrating the processes of a worldwide network of offices.

    His prior experience includes nearly 20 years of experience in the design, planning and management of medical, office / research and development complexes and residential facilities. He served as project manager for multiple projects.

He has a broad base of experience, having been involved in conceptual design/planning /programming  through final construction in a variety building types – multi-family housing, long term care facilities, community health centers and most recently a 30,000 sf gymnasium and community center.     Rob is a qualified architect with over 25 years’ experience leading large complex projects at all stages, both in the UK and internationally.     Before joining Steffian Bradley Architects as a Director in the London office in 2011 Rob completed a number of significant healthcare projects.     Rob co-founded Fendt Fikentscher Cole Architekten in 1992 and completed award winning housing, retail, office and mixed use developments, including an RIBA Award for Architecture in 1998.

He has been involved in all aspects of design, from inception to construction administration and Post-Occupancy Evaluation. Ralph also assisted in the SBA initiative to open a branch office in the UK, spending two years helping grow and develop the office and its client base while winning several major projects and design competitions.

    Paul has a broad range of architectural experience with leading international, design focused practices in the UK. Paul studied architecture at Bolton Street, Dublin and Greenwich University in London completing his studies there in 1996.

    Paul has been the project architect and lead designer for a range of building types. His experience includes large scale master planning, research buildings, complex infrastructure and airport building projects. With over 20 years of wide ranging experience, Paul’s most recent experience is as the architectural design leader for a number of significant healthcare projects, this includes the £320 million PFI Central Nottinghamshire Acute Hospital, the new £150m King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Bermuda and the £260 million PFI Western Health and Social Care Acute Hospital in Northern Ireland. He has led the architectural design for these projects from the architectural concept stage through to construction.

    Paul has extensive International experience and has worked and delivered Architectural projects in South Korea, China, Egypt, Turkey, Bermuda and the Netherlands.

    Paul brings not only strong design skills to a project but also significant expertise in the technical performance of the architectural elements of a building. He is also very adept at analysing and integrating both the functional and environmental elements of a project to generate and then evaluate options to define the optimal solution for the client.

    Paul joined Steffian Bradley Architects UK practice in November 2011 as Design Director and is currently leading the architectural design for two major healthcare projects and a high specification residential project in Central London.

This experience allows Martin to have a unique international perspective on master planning and design concepts in the modern, technological world. He also has over 15 years’ experience in designing and delivering healthcare projects in the Public Private Partnership arena, one recent P3 project achieving the accolade of ‘the highest scoring Pebble Project ever and winner of ‘Best International PFI project’. This success is born out of a deep understanding of collaboration with client groups and tried and tested methodologies in the workplace.

    Li Brincheiro, Controller/Principal, joined SBA in May 2001. She is responsible for day-to-day operation of finance, accounting and reporting activities of SBA’s headquarters, its subsidiaries and representative offices worldwide. She oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements in different countries. She maintains internal control and coordinates with public accounting firms on annual financial reviews. She analyzes financial data and presents financial reports accurately and timely to management for decision making.

    During his forty+ years of practice specializing in health care design and planning, Kurt has contributed to hundreds of completed projects throughout the United States, UK, and the Middle East.

    Kurt has been a member of the Academy of Architecture for Health (AIA-AAH) since 1978 serving on the Board for seven years and has served on the Academy Foundation (AAHF) Board for 9 years. He is a founding member and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA), and also co-founded the Boston Society of Architects’ Healthcare Facilities Committee. Since 1991 he has served on the Board of Trustees for the Boston Home, a long-term care facility for people with neurological diseases.

    Kurt has taught at the Boston Architectural College and the Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Executive Education Program, and presented at over 250 healthcare design conferences and events worldwide. Kurt has been involved with the last six editions of the FGI Guidelines as a member of the Steering Committee since 1992, and as vice-chair for the 2010 and 2014 editions. He currently serves as the President of The Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI).

    Kirsten Waltz, AIA, LEED AP, EDAC, is the Managing Principal for SBA’s Connecticut Office. She received her Masters of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her long-standing relationship with SBA started in 1999, at the Boston office, where she worked on a range of healthcare projects before transferring to the London office for three years. Upon returning to the States, Kirsten moved to Connecticut to oversee the opening of SBA’s Enfield office.

    Kirsten is experienced in programming, planning, project management, and design of healthcare projects. Kirsten’s interest in healthcare architecture stems from her genuine desire to improve the patient and staff experiences and better their day-to-day lives. With project experience ranging from 5000sqft departmental renovations to 450,000sqft new hospitals, Kirsten is able to address the smallest details while maintaining a broad overview of the entire project. Kirsten is especially interested in Evidence Based Design which uses credible research to inform the design process and achieve the best operational and functional outcomes for each project.

    Keith’s extensive healthcare, academic and research design and planning expertise includes experience leading healthcare and research projects both within the UK and internationally. He has served as an instructor for the Boston Architectural College and spoken at a wide variety of international design forums.

    Keith is based in the SBA London office where, since relocating to the UK in 2000, he has led a number of significant healthcare and academic research projects, building on his extensive experience on similar projects on numerous health sciences campuses across North America. His work in the UK includes the Manchester Joint Hospitals PFI, Peterborough Trust PFI, planning studies for Guy’s St Thomas’ Trust and significant new research facilities for the University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, Oxford University and University of York.

    Most recently he has lead the SBA team in the development of the master-planning and clinical design for the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre. This new 40,000 m2 specialist rehabilitation campus incorporates state-of-the-art residential, treatment and research facilities for the Ministry of Defence as well as civilian institutions.

    Although having worked almost exclusively on healthcare and research facilities for 25 years he continues to explore new solutions to these building types with creativity, challenging a formulaic approach in the ever changing healthsciences field. Keith has a particular strength in the integration of the functional and physical elements of a project. The physical analysis includes not only the site but also the cultural context of the proposed development that can have huge implications on the final design.

    Joe Sirkovich is a Principal at SBA with more than 28 years of design experience. He is responsible for initial conceptual ideas and implementation of design intent throughout the documentation process, and has strong skills in design rendering, staff mentoring, on-site reviews and follow-through with owners. His experience allows him to approach the design of each project with an overall understanding of the resident’s need to produce an attractive and cost effective solution. Joe is a strong proponent of preservation of the natural environment, and incorporates sustainable design elements whenever possible. Joe has also designed many projects in China. Each of these projects has required a commitment to the client’s goals, as well as overcoming logistical, cultural and language barriers.

    In addition to his professional interests as a member of American Institute of Architects and Boston Society of Architects, Joe enjoys spending time in nature and strives to preserve today’s world for tomorrow’s generation.

    Donald Luoni, AAIA, is a Construction Administrator and Principal with experience on major healthcare projects, including cancer centers, nursing units, community health centers, hospital operating rooms, maternity wards, cafeterias, administration offices, radiology units, endoscopic suites and emergency rooms. During his career, Don has worked on 4 major cancer center projects. He is responsible for keeping projects within budget and on schedule, contract negotiations and day-to-day construction management. He works closely with owners, always keeping them informed and looking out for their best interests. Don established SBA’s Construction Administration (CA) department, which provides staff training. In addition, he created a committee to regularly review CA issues.

    As a designer, architect (and occasional artist), Derek is driven by a collaborative process and innovative problem solving, which lead to strategic and thoughtful intentions.  His exceptional design and visualization skills produce compelling spatial environments that produce memorable experiences.  Responding to the specifics of each unique project rather than imposing a design style, he strives to find the overlap between space and place making.

    Derek’s expertise ranges from complicated renovation projects to new construction with challenging programmatic requirements.  Derek contributes over 20 years of design experience in architectural and interior design, space programming and planning, site design, and construction methodology to the firm. His work reflects his passion for teaching the next generation about architecture and design, from mentoring SBA interns, to being involved with local college architecture programs.

    Based in the Enfield, CT office, Chris is responsible for driving the technical elements of the design.  With diverse experience in the Academic, Healthcare, Residential and Senior Living sectors in the United States and abroad, he brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to each project resulting in unique design solutions that are not  restrained by pre-conceived ideas.  Chris believes that environmental consciousness, aesthetic beauty, functionality and technology should be combined in equal parts to create buildings that are an experiential treat for the users as well as a source of pride for the surrounding community.  When not practicing or writing about architecture, Chris can be found on the ski slopes, coaching soccer or playing bass.

    Bob Humenn is a Stockholder in SBA’s Boston office with experience in design, programming, planning, and management. In his work with medical/ambulatory care, hospital, and other institutional facilities, Bob communicates with senior management and users to define project goals and concepts. Bob has been the Project Executive on multiple Cancer Center projects, as well as many additional community hospital expansion and addition projects. An advocate for sustainability, Bob has led several projects through the pilot program for the Green Guide for Health Care, and has developed project work plans with the goal of achieving sustainable designs within healing environments.

    Amie Cafarelli joined SBA in 2007 and currently serves as In-house Counsel. Amie develops and implements the firm’s risk management practices and provides training to staff. In addition to her role as legal counsel, Amie brings her passion for continuous improvement to her role as Chair of SBA’s Corporate Culture Committee. She is also involved in shaping public policy as it relates to architects and the design profession as a member of the AIA MA Government Affairs Committee.

    Amie received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont and Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School, where she was a member of the Suffolk Transnational Law Review. She is currently licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and New York.

    Luke Thiboutot’s nineteen year career includes a diverse range of project types ranging from life sciences, academic, corporate, and healthcare.  Luke specializes in the design of research laboratories for, medical institutions, universities, and biotechnology organizations. His Life Science experience includes both new construction and the renovation of existing laboratories.  Luke’s expertise is in designing laboratory environments that foster collaboration and create serendipitous interaction between scientists. Additionally, Luke brings to SBA 6 years of prior experience working on projects at large academic institutions.
